Even more than a year after its opening, the recognition continues to roll in for the Northrop Grumman Launch Vehicles’ Division Headquarters. The Northrop Grumman project was announced as a winner of the 2021 Construction Risk Partners Build America Award in the New Building ($75 million to $125 million) category.

The Construction Risk Partners Build America Awards are put on by the Associated General Contractors (AGC) of America each year and are designed to recognize general and specialty contractors across the country for their work. They honor AGC members who build the nation’s most impressive construction projects ranging across the building, highway and transportation, utility infrastructure, federal and heavy divisions.

Some notable past projects that have been honored by the Build America Awards include Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, the Daytona International Speedway Grandstand renovation in Daytona, Florida, and the U.S. Coast Guard Headquarters in Washington, DC.

The Northrop Grumman Launch Vehicles’ Division Headquarters was developed by the Douglas Allred Company and is located on the 180-acre Allred Park Place development in Chandler. This $125 million project is the capstone of the development and continues to generate a positive economic impact for the City of Chandler.

The 633,000 SF campus is composed of two parts, the office and the manufacturing facility. The 356,000 SF office built-to-suit portion of the project entailed the construction of a 3-story office building campus for more than 2,500 employees. Building the largest private office building in Arizona in 2019 and one of the largest BTS projects in the West required considerable coordination and planning, all under an accelerated schedule.

Willmeng phased the project, receiving 45 separate permits to achieve the accelerated schedule required for Northrop Grumman’s completion deadline. After 17 months and the collaborative effort of a great team of dedicated design/construction partners, the facility envisioned was achieved.

Key partners on the project included Bowman Consulting Group, Comfort Systems USA, Coreslab Structures, GF Group Structural Engineers, HACI Mechanical Contractors, Hawkins Design Group, Kraemer Consulting Engineers, Pro-Bel USA, Pro-Low Joint Venture, Pro Steel Erectors II, Suntec Concrete and Wilson Electric Services.
