September 13, 2019 – MESA Willmeng Construction Inc., a Phoenix-based commercial general contractor, recently joined Able Aerospace Services, a Textron Aviation Inc. company, along with partners, dignitaries and community members to officially open a $9 million building expansion at Able’s headquarters facility, located within Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport in Mesa, Ariz.

Willmeng worked closely with Able to construct the 60,000-square-foot expansion which adds to their existing 200,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art campus. The challenge included creating a space that incorporates new technology into its industry-leading aircraft component repair and overhaul process, and to diversify into new product and service offerings, including aftermarket support for large-scale rotor-wing and commercial fixed- wing components. Adaptive Architects, Mesa, Ariz., was the architect.

“We are honored to work with Able Aerospace on such an important project for the East Valley, knowing its economic impact and contributions to the future growth of this area as an industry leader,” said James Murphy, Willmeng president and CEO.

The Able expansion is just one of several aviation projects completed by Willmeng Construction, including several others at Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport. They have also done multiple jobs, from ground up to tenant improvement projects, at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. Working in this environment requires careful planning and coordination with multiple stakeholders and Willmeng is well-suited for this type of work, enjoying success on recent projects at both airports. Additionally, they are currently completing preconstruction and preparing to break ground on a new terminal at Prescott Regional Airport.

“Willmeng understood the role that this building expansion plays in Able’s continued growth and our ability to provide the best possible support to our customers,” shared Michael Vercio, Able Aerospace Services General Manager. “Their team was a pleasure to work with and delivered our project on time and under budget.”

Since relocating from Phoenix to Mesa in 2013, Able has grown to more than 460 employees and expanded its footprint with new mezzanine space, a new paint facility and the Able Maintenance Center, featuring hangar space directly linked to the runway at Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport.
