Caurus Academy

The new 55,540 SF high school and middle school campus in North Phoenix included the development of an 11-acre site with a two-story, 38,928 SF facility with separate wings for the high school and middle school. The new campus includes administration office areas, 24 classrooms, science labs, a fine arts lab, a media lab, and a 16,612 SF detached gymnasium with locker rooms and concessions, as well as complete site development for future growth. We built the middle school and high school facility in five months and then completed the gymnasium and site work in the second phase. To achieve this aggressive schedule, we worked closely with our subcontractor partners. Our relationships with our subcontractors and our collaborative approach allowed us to ask the right questions to uncover opportunities to reduce the schedule while still creating realistic expectations for the entire team. We leveraged LEAN pull planning sessions to get all subcontractors to creatively sequence the construction and develop innovative construction approaches. For example, the team used a crane to fly stairwells into the building after it was enclosed rather than waiting for the stairwells to be installed before enclosing the structure.
